28th Annual Central American Parade and Cultural Festival

The Board of Directors of the International Honduran and Central American Parade, Inc. (IHCAP) is pleased to announce the 27th Annual Central American Parade and Cultural Festival, Sunday, September 8, 2024, starting at 10 AM, in front of the Happy Land Memorial on Southern Boulevard (Ochenta y Siete Boulevard) at the corner of East Tremont Avenue, The Bronx. Groups are invited to participate in the Parade and Cultural Festival.
The 28th Annual Central American Parade and Cultural Festival celebrate the 203rd anniversary of the independence of the Central American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, from Spain on September 15th, 1821. September 15th marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, in honor of such historic event.
Thousands of people will be in The Bronx to celebrate Central American culture, heritage, and contribution of the of 7.2 million Central Americans and Central American descendants, living in the United States and the 107,759 living in the New York Metropolitan Area.
The Central American Independence Parade and Cultural Festival is a celebration of Central American culture and pride in the New York Metropolitan Area. Now in its 27th year, the annual parade continues to honor leaders, educators, entertainers, and celebrities who all have a major impact within the Central American community in the New York Metropolitan Area, and the Central American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
The U.S. and the new York Metropolitan area Central American Diaspora
The Central American diaspora is comprised of close to 7.2 million U.S. residents who were either born in Central America or reported Central American ancestry, according to Migration Policy Institute’s tabulation of data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2021 American Community Survey. The Salvadoran diaspora is the largest from the region, with nearly 2.9 million U.S. members, followed by more than 2 million people with Guatemalan ancestry or origin, 1.3 million people with Honduran ancestry or origin, 445,000 people with Nicaraguan ancestry or origin, 240,000 people with Panamanian ancestry or origin, 190,000 people with Costa Rican ancestry or origin, and 125,000 Other Central American.
According to the New Yok City Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs report, A Demographic Snapshot: NYC’s Latinx Immigrant Population, Central Americans represent 11.3% or 107,759 of New York City’s Total Hispanic Population.

Central American Independence Parade Start Time
The Central American Independence Parade formation will start at 10 AM, in front of the Happy Land Memorial on Southern Boulevard (Ochenta y Siete Boulevard) at the corner of East Tremont Avenue, The Bronx, NY 10460. The Central American Independence Parade will step-off at 12:00 PM sharp! Rain or shine.
Central American Independence Parade Route
The Parade proceeds from Southern Boulevard (Ochenta y Siete Boulevard) and East Tremont Avenue, down Southern Boulevard to Boston Road and dissolves between Charlotte Street &Crotona Park East. The parade is approximately 1.25 miles.
Central American Cultural Festival
The Parade will be followed immediately by the Central American Cultural Festival at Crotona Park, between Crotona Avenue and Claremont Parkway, until 6 PM.

International Honduran and Central American Parade, Inc. (IHCAP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt organization, it was founded in 1996; and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization on June 18, 1997. The mission of International Honduran and Central American Parade, Inc.
(IHCAP), is to create awareness and appreciation of the Central American culture and its contribution to New York Metropolitan area.
